ABOUT US

Dr. Thomas Spurlock: Doctor of Chiropractic & President of Alabama Spine & Rehabilitation Center. Dr. Spurlock was born in Birmingham and grew up in Gadsden. He received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University in the pre-medical sciences. He then attended Life Chiropractic College where he received his Doctorate of Chiropractic degree. He did his postgraduate studies at National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois and Huntsville, Alabama. He is licensed in the State of Alabama and is Board Certified with the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and the Alabama State Board of Chiropractic Examiners. After graduating from college, he opened Spurlock Chiropractic Clinic in 1982 in Homewood. Dr. Spurlock was later recruited to the Division of Neurosurgery at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. From 2000-2011 he served as an Associate Professor and the Director of Neurological Network Development, and was the only Chiropractic Physician on faculty. In 2003, Dr. Spurlock founded Alabama Pain Consultants, which provided interventional and alternative pain solutions and durable medical equipment for physician practices. In 2011 he opened Alabama Spine & Rehabilitation Center as a hub for multidisciplinary treatment and care for neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.

Liz Moorman was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. She attended Vanderbilt University for her undergraduate degree and her Master’s in business Administration degree. While at Vanderbilt, Liz was on a full tennis scholarship and was voted Vanderbilt Female Athlete of the Year in 1985. After graduation, she competed as a tennis professional internationally in Europe and Asia for two years. Upon returning to the States, Liz began working in medical sales. She then decided to pursue physical therapy to work directly with patients so Liz went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Boston University. Her professional experience includes Children’s Hospital, St. vincent’s Hospital, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, and most recently Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital outpatient clinic. Liz continues to compete in tennis and represents Alabama in the Southern Senior Cup. She is committed to making her personal fitness a priority for her health and for the benefit of her patient’s health. Liz has two delightful boys, 13 and 10, whom she adores greatly. Liz is a huge asset to our clinic and is a complete joy to work alongside.

Lauren received her bachelor’s degree from Auburn University in Exercise Science, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She then went on to receive her Associates of Applied Science as a Physical Therapist Assistant from Volunteer State Community College; she graduated Summa Cum Laude here as well. Along with working at Alabama Spine & Rehabilitation Center, Lauren also works PRN on weekends at UAB in the acute rehabilitation department. So, she is a very busy woman and we are glad to have her on board here at Alabama Spine. Lauren met her husband, Matt, at Auburn and Matt is currently in Dental School at UAB. Lauren attends Mountain Brook Community Church, and in her free time enjoys playing cards, running, reading, Bible studies, sports, and outdoor activities. Lauren absolutely loves physical therapy and looks forward to working hard with you to improve your quality of life.
